Dr Richard Sheaves is a leading consultant in endocrinology and diabetes based in central London, practicing privately at The London Clinic and King Edward VII's Hospital. He specialises in the management of disorders of the thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands, and has expertise in the assessment and treatments of patients with calcium disorders, parathyroid diseases and neuroendocrine tumours.
Dr Sheaves' specialism of pituitary disease takes in the different types of the condition, including hyperprolactinemia, Cushing's syndrome and acromegaly. Similarly, he treats Addison's disease, pheochromocytoma and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) under his adrenal disorder speciality.
He regularly sees and advises patients, including many international patients, with a new diagnosis of diabetes and those with a longer-term history of the disorder. Alongside his colleague, Jeannette Woods, Diabetes Nurse Consultant, they provide extensive diabetes education, including introduction to insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring and the advanced use of Control IQ. Furthermore, Dr Sheaves offers specialised treatment in the assessment and treatment of diabetes complications, including diabetic retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy and cardiovascular disease.
Dr Sheaves received his medical degree from the University of Oxford, where he also received a DPhil doctorate degree followed by a post-doctoral research fellowship. His specialist training in Endocrinology and Diabetes was obtained at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, after which he worked as a consultant physician in Singapore. He subsequently obtained a master in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dr Sheaves' expert clinical research has featured in peer-reviewed publications and he is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London.
