About Me
Dr Simon Wilson graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2004, and has extensive experience working in the UK and overseas in both general and interventional cardiology. In 2017, he was accepted into one of the highest volume complex and chronic total occlusion revascularisation fellowships in Europe and thereafter appointed as a consultant in interventional cardiology at St George’s Hospital, London.
He is dedicated to improving patient safety and outcomes, and was appointed the head of governance for cardiology at St George’s in 2021. Dr Wilson’s principal focus is to help understand the cause of your symptoms and deliver evidence-based treatment to improve quality of life and minimise the risk of future cardiac events.
He believes in the importance of personalised medicine, working together to achieve the best possible outcomes. His sub-specialist interest is interventional cardiology and he is an expert in chest pain, shortness of breath, coronary artery disease, and preventative medicine. To date, he has performed over 2,500 coronary intervention procedures, including the most complex and chronic total occlusion patient subsets, and has been invited to give talks, chair sessions, and perform live cases across the United Kingdom, Europe, America, and Asia.
In addition to clinical cardiology, Dr Wilson has extensive publications in atherothrombosis, imaging, and percutaneous coronary intervention. He completed a PhD in cardiovascular research, and in 2017, was awarded the European Society of Cardiology Young Investigator of the year award for this work.
He maintains a strong academic interest and currently is the principal or co-investigator for several national and international studies with a focus on improving outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease. He firmly believes in the importance of education as a mechanism to improve patient care. He has co-authored an international book on chronic total occlusion revascularisation and continues to provide teaching to national training programmes and healthcare professionals.
